Our Policy
Protecting your privacy is very important to us. In order to carry out our daily business as a publisher, we process personal data. This may be data we have received from you, for example through our website, e-mail or by telephone. It also happens that we obtain your personal data through third parties (for example, a sales channel or your employer). With this privacy statement we inform you about how we handle personal data.
What personal data do we collect and process from you and why?
Personal data that we collect and process are individual data about you as a person, as well as data about your activities on our website, IP address, internet browser and device type.
In some cases we process personal data in order to comply with a legal (administrative) obligation, but mostly we do this in order to be able to carry out our work.
If you place an order (by phone, through the web shop or by e-mail) we ask for your name, address, place of residence, e-mail address and telephone number. Your name and address are needed to process your order. Your telephone number is registered in order to allow the order process to run correctly and smoothly. If you have questions about the processing of your order, telephone contact with you may be necessary. We use your e-mail address for orders in the web shop in order to confirm your order. We will only use your phone number and e-mail address for the mentioned purposes. We will not call or message you unnecessarily.
We would be happy to send you our digital newsletter, a notification upon the appearance of a specific title and/or the publisher’s paper catalog. Only if you have given your express consent, your data will also be collected, stored, processed and used by us for this purpose. If you wish to receive the newsletter and/or to be informed about the appearance of a specific title, we ask for your name and e-mail address. For the paper catalog, your name, address, place of residence and gender are recorded in order to send the catalog to you by mail.
When you send an e-mail or other message to us, we may retain that message. Sometimes we ask you for your personal information because it is relevant to the situation at hand. This enables us to answer your questions or process your request. We will not combine this data with other personal data we may have.
Uitgeverij Mens! does not make commercial use of personal data.
If you visit our website, without buying anything or signing up for the newsletter or to be notified about the appearance of a title, you can do so without revealing your identity. On the server side, only your IP address, date, time and web pages viewed are stored. From this data, however, you are not identifiable to us as a person.
Cookies
Our website uses cookies in several places. Cookies are small text files placed on the device you use to visit our website and stored by your browser (locally on your hard drive). These cookies are used to analyze user behavior on our websites.
Google Analytics, which we use to map the statistics of visits to our website, also places cookies. We would like to know how our visitors use the website and how many people visit our website each month so that we can optimize the use of the website. We certainly do not want to track the visitors to our website unwanted; however, we need good statistics in order to make our website and our offerings meet the needs of our visitors as well as possible. With Google Analytics, the information is anonymized as much as possible. Your IP address is expressly not used. We can therefore not trace our website visitors personally.
Use of personal data/transfer to third parties
Some work we cannot perform without the help of others because, for example, we do not have the necessary specialist knowledge or resources. We then use the services of third parties such as, for example, our system administrator, suppliers or hosting parties of online software. If engaging third parties results in them having access to personal data or that they themselves record and/or otherwise process, we will agree (in writing) with those third parties that they will comply with all obligations of the AVG. Naturally, we will only engage third parties where we can and may assume that they are reliable parties who handle personal data adequately and can and will comply with the AVG. This means, among other things, that these third parties may only process your personal data for the aforementioned purposes.
Of course, we may also need to transfer your personal data to third parties in connection with a legal obligation.
Any other transfer or transmission of personal data to third parties for commercial or charitable purposes will not take place without your explicit consent.
External websites
Our privacy statement relates only to our own website. Our website contains links to external websites, including social media. Clicking on these links will take you to a website outside www.uitgeverijmens.nl. You can read how these third parties handle your personal data in their privacy policies.
Processing within the EEA
We will only process personal data within the European Economic Area, unless you agree different written arrangements with us. Exceptions to this are situations where we want to track contact moments through our website and/or social media pages (such as Facebook). Think for example of visitor numbers and requested web pages. Your data is stored by third parties outside the EU when using Google Analytics or Facebook. These parties are ‘EU-US Privacy Shield’-certified, so they have to comply with European privacy regulations. Incidentally, this concerns only a limited amount of sensitive personal data, in particular your IP address.
Retention periods
Your data will be stored for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes stated in this statement. Certain data must be kept longer (usually 7 years) because we have to comply with legal retention obligations (e.g. tax retention obligations).
Your rights
You can contact Publishing Man! at any time with a request to access, change or delete the personal data we hold about you. However, data that is still needed for billing and accounting purposes in connection with (incomplete) orders cannot be deleted for legal obligations. Furthermore, you can object to the processing of your personal data (or part thereof) by us or by a third party engaged by us. You also have the right to receive your data in a common format in order to transfer your data to a third party if possible.
Complaints
Should you have a complaint about the processing of your personal data, please contact us about this. Should this not lead to a satisfactory outcome, you always have the right to file a complaint with the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, the supervisory authority in the field of privacy.
Security
We have taken appropriate organizational and technical measures for the protection of personal data insofar as these can reasonably be required of us, taking into account the interest to be protected, the state of the art and the costs of the relevant security measures.
We require our employees and any third parties who necessarily have access to the personal data to maintain confidentiality. We further ensure that our employees have received proper and complete instruction on handling personal data and that they are adequately familiar with the responsibilities and obligations of the AVG.
Personal data incidents
In the unlikely event that there is an incident (a data breach) involving personal data, we will inform you as soon as possible, unless there are compelling reasons, if there is a concrete chance of negative consequences for your privacy. We aim to do this within 48 hours after we discover this data breach.
Privacy policy changes
Undoubtedly, our privacy policy will be changed from time to time. Therefore, please ensure that you have the most recent, and therefore applicable, version of our privacy policy. This can be found on our websites or will be sent to you upon request.
